On March 9, 2022, the Westminster City Council introduced an ordinance to select a four district map, Map 402, to implement new electoral district boundaries. The ordinance establishing four districts and adopting Map 402 was officially adopted at the City Council Meeting on March 23, 2022.

In addition to introducing an ordinance for the four district map,  the Westminster City Council also selected a five district map, Map 507. On the June 2022 election ballot, a measure will be placed to ask the voters to weigh in on whether the seat of mayor shall be elected or appointed. It is currently elected at large. If the voters choose to make the mayor seat appointed, the number of districts will increase from four to five. The ordinance establishing five districts and adopting Map 507 was officially adopted at the City Council Meeting on March 23, 2022, and will go into effect if the ballot measure passes.
